Glass workshop

Glass workshop with MASKK after school club

Monday 3rd October

Working with local glass artist Chris Campell we designed a workshop for the MASKK after school club which enabled them to create cast glass discs.

The name for one of the new parks had already been chosen as ‘Poppy Fields’ and so we took the kids from this group to the park and picked flowers, leaves and grasses that we found growing onsite.

The kids were all given clay to cut into discs and pressed the flowers into the clay, leaving an imprint.
These were then placed into a wooden hoop and sealed with clay so that plaster ocould be poured over them. This created the cast for the rubber mold.

Once the plaster had hardened, the clay was removed and rubber which had been melted was poured into the imprint in the plaster. This was left to cool and will be used to create the glass discs, which Chris will cast at his workshop.
